End Of Winter (EOW) 2010 Saturday March 20, 2010 EOW 08 Ride Report EOW 09 Ride Report This is the 5th (I think) annual End Of Winter Ride. Over the years there have been a few who have wanted to have it in different locations. But it still seems to me and most that Mt St Helen's is perfect. It is generally the first big ride of the year. The reason it is at Mt St Helen's is two fold. 1. Mt St Helen's is a central location. Riders come from as far north as Bellingham and as far south as Albany Oregon. 2. It is one of the best rides in Washington. 3. There is a new route click here to check it out. The actual ride is from the Gas Station at exit 49 in Castle Rock. It departs from there at around noon. It goes all the way up Hwy 504 or the Spirit Lake Hwy to the Johnston Ridge (if open) view point. The ride is basically self guided. It is set up with a meet time of 11am. You can then mill around visit and look at the bikes. There are also several eating options right there so you could arrive and have breakfast or lunch. At noon we have a short meeting and then the departures begin in groups. Sport bikes will leave first. Then Sport Touring will leave. Then fast Cruiser. Then Cruiser. If you prefer to leave prior or after these starts as a group or solo that is fine. All groups make there own plans in advance. Are you stopping somewhere after the ride? Do you want to stop or meet somewhere on the ride? What is the return route? Have the questions answered before the ride. There have been complaints before that I got lost? Or I did not know the ride home? Or we rode to fast? You are responsible for yourself. Know what your group plans are. Join the right departure group. If you join the fast group it will be fast. We do not have a reservation at the gas station we just show up. I don't know if they noon. We have never had a problem so be considerate. I have added a photo of the Parking lot and shown were you should park. |

approximately 1.8 Miles. You will see another large gas station to the left and turn left onto Tower Road. Stay to the left and the next intersection right there. Tower Road will replace the plain lower section of the Spirit Lake Highway with some nice twisties. There will also be a nice short view of St Helens. |
